This one is for the newer military families – we know you seasoned PCS pros probably know all of these already!
We know that getting orders can be an overwhelming process, and packing all of your belongings and moving halfway across the country is not an easy task. That’s why we’re sharing some tips to make your PCS move less stressful and more efficient.
Schedule Your Moving Details Early
As soon as you get your official orders you’ll want to start setting up meetings with your base transportation office and the family center at your new base. They will be able to explain all of your options and provide you with resources for your move.
The next step is finding and hiring your moving company. Ask your military friends for referrals and secure your moving date ASAP.
Use a PCS Binder
Having all of your paperwork and checklists in one place is a total lifesaver when it comes to the hustle and bustle of a busy PCS move.

Create a Labeling System
When it comes time to start packing you will not regret using a labeling system when you get to your new home! You can use things like garage sale stickers, colorful duct tape, or even spray paint to label your boxes by room.
Pack Your Boxes Properly
If you’re doing the packing yourself, you’ll want to make sure you utilize every bit of box space you have while also securing your items to ensure they all arrive in one piece. Make sure that you are using small boxes for heavier items and big boxes for light items.

Ask For Help
Don’t be afraid to ask friends or other milspouses for help when it comes to packing or watching your kids for you while you pack. One of the best parts of military life is the community that comes with it!
