Fall Fashion Trends For Every Size, Shape, and Budget

Guest Post By: Carrie Leaders

With the exception of pumpkin overload, there is nothing about fall that I don’t absolutely love. The air gets a little crisper, the leaves a little crunchier, and suddenly, my wardrobe needs to be changed. I’m usually ready for boots and layers by the end of August, so I relish the moment the temperature drops below 60 degrees and I can rock my long sleeves and closed-toe shoes. The Homefront United Network has asked me to showcase some of my favorite fall fashion trends and I am so excited to share them with all of you! These looks can easily be made your own with a little tweaking and personal style thrown in, and are flattering on all shapes, sizes, and even budgets! Remember, in the words of Annie, “you’re never fully dressed without a smile” -so don’t forget that!

I am obsessed with this fur vest. I love that I can dress it up with heels and a white blouse for a more elegant look, but it can also be worn a bit more casual with a t-shirt (think “vintage rock band”) and Converse. It can be tailored to your personal style, but will be a classic piece in your closet for years to come. This vest is from Apricot Lane Peoria, my favorite online boutique, and they have a similar style on their website. I love to layer my necklaces too for an interesting juxtaposition-mix different lengths and textures for a fun look. A wool fedora pulls everything together for a more bohemian vibe.

I was THRILLED to see that ponchos were coming back for another season. These babies are so comfortable and easy to wear, that there is absolutely no reason you shouldn’t own one. They can easily be layered over a t-shirt or long sleeved shirt, and look great when paired with destroyed denim or a jean skirt. I’m loving these heeled “shoeties”-a mix between a shoe and a bootie. They go perfectly with this outfit and add a touch of sophistication. I paired my poncho with a turquoise necklace that added the perfect pop of color; just because the seasons have changed doesn’t mean you can’t rock those bright shades!

This is my go-to outfit when I’m in a rush or in a bit of a fashion slump. Nothing is more chic than a black-on-black ensemble, but this is easily spruced up with a plaid scarf to keep it from being too boring. Nothing screams “FALL” more than plaid and this blanket scarf is no exception. I love how long and cozy it is, perfect for those days that aren’t quite cold enough for a jacket. Not into the plaid? Find a floral or tribal print in fall colors such as plum, navy, or gold. The leggings are also fleece-lined, so they keep me nice and warm! Riding boots complete the casual look that’s perfect for pumpkin picking and a hayride.

Long cardigan sweaters are HUGE this season. I love them because they can be thrown on over anything and are so comfortable! I love the geometric print on this Old Navy one, but there are many different styles out there to fit your fancy. I paired mine with my fleece lined leggings and Madden Girl “work” booties. My super cozy wool socks added a bit of warmth (just in case I fell in that stream)! A fun, patterned sock would also look great with this get-up; pair polka dots with stripes, or coordinating colors with a crazy pattern. Don’t be afraid to mix prints, just be sure you’re pairing complementary colors and you’ll be fine!
