I absolutely love the month of May, a month that is dedicated to thanking and honoring our military service members, as well as spouses and families. May is National Military Appreciation month, and during this time we see people everywhere – not just military – thank us for the dedication and sacrifices made for our country, a beautiful tribute to our service members both past and present.
My husband has served our country for over 14 years now and I still get teary eyed every time I see a family at a homecoming or witness a service member walking into the post office with his uniform. Each and every time I stop, and I thank them for their service.
As a civilian married to a soldier, I never had the exposure to the military life. It is something that I sit back and think of from time to time, how different would my life be today if I didn’t understand the sacrifices our service members make when they serve? Would I still be such a strong advocate for our families?
There isn’t much more I can do, I am always finding more ways that I can help – it is my duty and responsibility as an American to support our troops. I think because I am exposed to the lifestyle, it just means I am held accountable for my actions. I help throughout the community, however it just means a little bit more to me because it hits home.
Our civilian counterparts are amazing, and since we are National Guard – we know a thing or two about that!
It is programs such as Chevy Salutes, which shows the dedication and gratitude for military families during Military Appreciation Month.
A little bit about Chevy and why they offer the BEST military program of any car company…
GM employs nearly 5,000 veterans and has close to 45,000 current retirees who have served in the military. They also have a GM Service Technical College in which works on several initiatives that encourage the hiring of returning veterans. And with the help from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Chamber Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes program, GM is providing dealerships with free access to over 400 Hiring Our Heroes job fairs that connect them to veteran applicants with a diverse array of skills.
Chevrolet also extends their military discount to Active Duty members, Reserves, Veterans within one year of discharge date and Retirees — including their spouses — of the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, National Guard and Coast Guard. This great value gives you a special discounted price below the MSRP. Plus, you can combine this discount with most current offers to save even more. USAA members also receive an additional $750 private offer.
Chevrolet and its dealers are proud to give back to the men and women who protect our country. Chevrolet supports the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans, works with Cell Phones for Soldiers and is proud to be the Official Vehicle of the Army-Navy Game presented by USAA.
This month, join us and #ChevySalutes in thanking our military for their sacrifices made daily. I will continue this journey as a military spouse and civilian by honoring them with each opportunity given.
